For Students

Global Human Rights Student

Credit Hours

Students in the GHRC are expected to attend class meetings, attend regular one-on-one supervision meetings with a faculty member, and devote approximately 8-10 hours to their clinical work outside of class attendance and preparation time. Students enrolled in the clinic for the fall semester will register for four credit hours while students registered for the clinic in the spring
semester will register for two credits. The GHRC is intended to be a year-long commitment, but students may choose to enroll for the fall semester alone.

Grading

Paolo Carozza Wwyff1

All students will be graded by letter grade. Students will be evaluated based on the area of clinic work in which they are participating, with representation, advocacy, and education requiring the completion of different assignments. Students participating in representation matters will be evaluated based on several short reflection papers, a draft of their case plan, a legal research memo, participation in the skills sessions, and completion of their fieldwork assignments.

Students participating in advocacy matters will be evaluated based on several short reflection papers, a research memo on timely legislative initiatives and advocacy initiatives around the world, draft advocacy and engagement plans, participation in the skills sessions, and completion of their fieldwork assignments.

Students participating in education matters will be evaluated based on several short reflection papers, a research memo on human rights education initiatives in specific areas of the world, a draft of their plans for education initiatives during the semester and/or year, participation in the skills sessions, and completion of their fieldwork assignments. As part of the classroom component of the clinic, students will regularly share their work in the different areas of representation, education, and advocacy.
